Interning with AS – Hands-On Experience

By Maddie K.

Hello! My name is Maddie Kelley and I am currently a freshman at Houston Community College. I plan on transferring to the University of Texas at Austin in the fall to major in Health & Society. I began working with Austin Smiles because of one of their mission trips I went on. On the trip I thought it was amazing to see how all these people from different places come to support these kids. I knew this was an organization I wanted to be a part of.

During my time, I learned a lot about what goes on behind the scenes of planning a mission trip. I helped pack and unpack some of the bags. I had to figure out prices, amounts, weight, and what was brought back after the trip. I would have to go through inventory to figure out if we needed to restock items for future trips. I loved my time at Austin Smiles and can’t wait for their future!
