On Wednesday morning, six-year-old Flor Herrera and her mother, Esmerelda, sign a thank-you banner intended for Austin Smiles staff, volunteers and sponsors. A day earlier, Flor underwent an Abbe flap with Dr. David Wainwright and plastic surgery fellow Dr. Erika Sato. The Abbe flap is a delicate procedure involving the transfer of skin, muscle and mucosa of the central part of the lower lip to the upper lip.
